The angels Bartleby and Loki got thrown out of Heaven when drunken Bartleby tried to talk Loki into a revolution. God sent them to a worst exile than Hell - Wisconsin. There Bartleby finds that indulgence is given to everyone who enters a certain church in New Jersey, and sees a change to return to Heaven.

Meanwhile, Bethany is chosen to save the world by keeping Bartleby and Loki from entering said church. She's not happy in finding out that the promised prophets are two dope heads of which one only wants to get her laid and the other doesn't talk at all. When a dead man drops from the sky claiming he's the 13th apostle who wasn't mentioned in the bible because he's black, they meet a muse that earns her money stripping, and a shit demon tries to kill them all, she's close to return home... only to learn she's got more in common with Jesus than she thought.

This movie is plain ridiculous. The first time I read the synopsis, I knew I had to watch it, and I didn't stop laughing 'till the end credits were rolling. I know that there are a lot of stupid cliches in there, and that you shouldn't watch this if you have any religious feelings that could be hurt. But I love it.
The scenes with Jay and Silent Bob could have been reduced, I'll give you that. I get rather annoyed by Jay after a while and just want to gag him, but the rest? <3

The first time I watched this, it was for Alan Rickman. And he's great in this, a snarky, grumpy angel who's anatomically inpaired like a ken doll. And for some reason, this is the only movie with Ben Affleck I can watch without feeling the urge to skip most of his scenes, or hit stop after ten minutes.

In short: God is Alanis Morissette, likes to play minigolf, is lonely but funny and likes to watch humans during sex. Demons like air condition and make poor jokes about holy bartenders. Angels become human if their wings are torn off. Alice in Wonderland is one big metaphor for the various religions. And Loki doesn't look like Tom Hiddleston ;)
