In 1929, it's hard for the two musicians, Joe and Jerry, to make a living, especially when Joe looses all their money betting. On their way to one of their rare jobs, they witness a mob hit, and Joe comes up with the brilliant idea of joining a band to flee for Florida. The fact that it is an all female band seems a little obstacle when faced with death, so they make up the identities of Josephine and Daphne and hop on the train.

Of course it doesn't take Joe long to fall in love with Sugar, who only joined the band to find a millionaire and be done with her job. Once they arrive, Joe decides he has to take up action, and invents another disguise, the heir of Shell Oil, who just happens to cross Sugar's path. To convince her, he talks Jerry into distracting Osgood Fielding III, who fancies "Daphne" anyway, so Joe can take Sugar onto Osgoods yacht.

Just when Jerry gets engaged with Osgood and Joe tries to tell Sugar who he really is, the mobsters turn up in Florida, and recognize our two musicians, who promptly witness another murder and only just get away from the mob.

One of my personal favourites is the end, when Jerry tries to come up with reasons why he can't marry Osgood, telling him how he smokes, how he's a terrible person, only to give up, tear down his wig and say "I'm a man", to which Osgood only says: "Well, nobody's perfect!" I don't even know why, but it never fails to make me smile every single time <3

If someone asked me if there was one genius in the comedic genre, I would say Billy Wilder without thinking about it. The timing's perfect, the punchlines are great, everything fits and clicks and makes a very great movie.

And I blame it on Jack Lemmon that I like men in drag ;)

OH GOD YES
